Leading Through Safety:
Psychosocial Hazard Leadership

A comprehensive one-day course built on WA legislation, practical leadership frameworks, and real-world scenarios for supervisors, managers, and SSEs.

What You Will Learn

This course develops the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead psychosocial safety — not just comply with it. By the end of the day, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and assess psychosocial hazards using the PSA Prepare, Look, Listen, Link framework
  • Apply WHS Act 2020 (WA) and Mines Regulations 2022 (Regs 55A–55D) to real workplace scenarios
  • Implement control measures using the hierarchy of controls for psychosocial risks
  • Conduct or contribute to a psychosocial risk assessment
  • Recognise early warning signs of psychological harm in their team
  • Have effective, confident conversations about mental health at work
  • Understand their legal duties as a supervisor, manager, or SSE
  • Build a psychologically safe team culture

Module 1 — Understanding Psychosocial Hazards

What they are, why they matter, and the WA legislative framework

Module 2 — Leadership & Duty of Care

Supervisor accountability, SSE obligations, Regs 55A–55D in practice

Workshop 1 — Hazard Identification & Assessment

Sector-specific scenario: Mining (Goldrock Resources) or Business (Bridgepoint Solutions)

Module 3 — Risk Controls & Early Intervention

Hierarchy of controls for psychosocial risks, early warning signs, EAP integration

Module 4 — Building Psychological Safety

Having difficult conversations, team culture, and continuous improvement

Workshop 2 — Incident Response & Improvement

Scenario-based: respond to a psychosocial incident and develop an action plan

Stream A — Mining & Resources

Goldrock Resources

Two scenario-based workshops set at a fictional WA mining operation — covering FIFO pressures, production culture conflicts, night shift fatigue, and managing a psychological incident on site. Directly aligned to Regulations 55A–55D.

  • Workshop 1A: Hazard identification at Goldrock
  • Workshop 2A: Night Shift Crisis — Jake's situation

Stream B — General Business

Bridgepoint Solutions

Two scenario-based workshops set in a professional services firm — covering hybrid work demands, workload pressure, interpersonal conflict, and supporting an employee showing early signs of distress. Aligned to WHS Act 2020.
